Stephanie Furtado is the Skin, Wound and Ostomy Nurse Clinician at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, within Hamilton Health Sciences. She is a graduate of Western University’s Master of Clinical Science in Wound Healing. She has been working as a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) since 2016.

She holds certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence with the Canadian Nurses Association. She was the winner of the 2018 Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) conference case study poster of merit award. Currently she is working on a study to examine pressure injuries and skin tears in the neonatal population. She also initiated the NSWOCC Pediatric Community of Practice. Stephanie is a part time clinical professor for the McMaster School of Nursing, a faculty lecturer for the McMaster University Department of Surgery and is the current regional director for Ontario with NSWOCC.

She is passionate about providing quality patient and family experiences and has been involved in founding a young adult ostomy support group. She also volunteers for the Ostomy Canada Youth Camp, and supports best practice groups for MCH with a focus on pressure injuries.
